Returning to Blogging

Saturday, June 27th, 2015

It is over two years since I have posted to this blog, and even things that I’ve done on a number of years — like post pictures of the Malern Well Dressing have not been done.   There is no particular excuse for this other than not finding the time, although poor health — and particular poor eyesight has been a contributory factor.  To be honest, my purpose when creating this blog was more to explore WordPress and the general idea of writing rather than to create a site that would necessarily be of interest to others.

I do intend to get back to posting somewhat regularly, and certainly have a number of items that I want to write about.  I have to say that it is mostly for selfish reasons:  I find writing about a topic has two consequences: if it is technical, I tend to have a better understanding; and if it is something less technical it becomes a way of giving some personal therapy to myself.

Anyway, my copy of MarsEdit still seems to work, so hopefully if I press the button this will appear on the blog.

Site back up

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

My apologies to anyone trying to visit this blog during the last four or five days.   It appeared to get hi-jacked and redirected to a (probably unsavoury) site.  I  believe that everything is now back to normal.

I’ve been somewhat remiss in posting over the last three months.  I have been quite busy but hope to devote more time to writing now.

More software purchases

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Over the past couple of months I seem to have got quite carried away with new software purchases. I’ve just decided to go down the route of purchasing MarsEdit which hopefully will encourage me to keep posting to this blog.

Last weekend I took the plunge and purchased the Topaz filters bundle. I’d been put on to this by a piece from Bart Busschots in his “Chit-Chat Across the Pond” segment on Allison Sheridan’s Nosillacast. I would have had no interest in these filters as I am not a Photoshop user, but most of them can now be used in iPhoto, Aperture and some other applications. I got quite carried away with experimenting with the effects possible (and I’ll try to post a couple here in a day or two). There was another special offer that reduced the bundle price even more at the weekend so that was another item on the credit card.

Refreshed the Sidebar

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

I finally figured out how to tailor the theme template files to include some widgets in the sidebar so there’s now a search box as well as some weather forecasts which are unlikely to be of interest to many folks. However now I’ve got it working I can actually insert some useful dynamic content into the sidebar.

I’ve also started populating the sidebar with links to my favourite blogs which are typically associated with podcasts to which I subscribe.

WordPress iPhone/iPod Touch App

Friday, July 17th, 2009

The app that I have used for this and the previous two posts seems pretty useful for the occasional blog post when one doesn’t wish to use the computer or when one is travelling. It also allows the offline writing of posts.

Photo test from iPod

Not sure where this photo was taken. Just used as a test.

Test of post from iPod Touch

This is a test of blogging via the iPod Touch app.

Another Blog Entry

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Perhaps I should look at some other clients as well for WordPress … The wordpress documentation gives the following list. I’ve used Journler in the past but blogging is being dropped from that.

Blog Entry

This is to test the Blogging features within MacJournal. I’m hoping that MacJournal might be the answer to keeping odd snippets of information, maintaining a blog and diary and other useful stuff. We’ll see how it goes.

My new blog

This is my new blog. Not sure yet what I’m going to do with this, but I will experiment for a while.
